Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. The Back@Home program, led by NCDHHS and state and local partners, is working to make that a reality across North Carolina’s 79 county Balance of State Continuum of Care.
What Back@Home Does
Built on a Housing First approach, Back@Home provides financial assistance and housing stabilization services (including case management, outreach, system navigation, and move in support) to households with severe service needs. The program aims to stabilize up to 1,400 households by winter 2026. Critically, it removes traditional barriers to housing: no one is screened out based on income, criminal history, substance use, or domestic violence history.

Coordinating services across 79 counties and multiple funding streams including HUD CoC Program funding, U.S. Treasury Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA2), and State Fiscal Recovery Funds requires connected technology that can keep pace with complex federal requirements. Salesforce serves as the operational backbone of Back@Home, centralizing participant data, tracking required documentation, and supporting compliance across each distinct funding source. It enables consistent reporting to federal agencies, helps ensure that providers meet match requirements, and creates a clear audit trail across all financial assistance and service activities. By giving NCDHHS and its partners a shared view of each household’s progress, Salesforce makes it possible to coordinate seamlessly among Housing Stabilization Service providers, The Housing Collaborative, and NCCEH while keeping the focus where it belongs: on the household.
